Ultrasound examinations are a very common radiology procedure. An ultrasound uses high frequency soundwaves to produce images of the body called a sonogram. There is no known risk or discomfort from ultrasound.

Before an ultrasound

Preparation depends on the type of examination you will have. Some scans you may be instructed not to eat or drink, for others you may be asked to drink water and arrive with a full bladder at the time of examination.

The Ultrasound
Usually you will be asked to lie on an examining table during the ultrasound examination. A warm gel is spread on your skin and a small hand held probe is placed on the skin over the problem area and moved around until the desired images are obtained. One of our expert sonographers will carry out your examination.  The examination will take about 20 to 30 minutes.

Post Ultrasound
An experienced radiologist will review your images and will advise if further images are required. A report will be sent to your referring healthcare provider. You can eat and drink normally after the ultrasound.
